Greenwillow Books publishes books of excellent literary and artistic quality. We publish across all categories, fiction and nonfiction, from birth to age 18. The list has an outstanding reputation—and benefits from a high level of imprint recognition, review coverage, and trust—with teachers, librarians, and independent booksellers especially. We publish award-winning, critically acclaimed titles and our goal is to publish high quality books with significant commercial appeal.

Historically known as a publisher of preschool picture books, Greenwillow has also always been the home to outstanding and groundbreaking fiction in both the middle grade and teen categories. Our backlist is deep and features classics in the field, including Freight Train, by Donald Crews, A Chair for My Mother, by Vera B. Williams, Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse, by Kevin Henkes, The Whipping Boy, by Sid Fleischman, The New Kid on the Block, by Jack Prelutsky, Howl’s Moving Castle, by Diana Wynne Jones, Hello, Universe by Erin Entrada Kelly, and Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, by Chris Crutcher. Greenwillow Books was founded in 1974 by the legendary editor Susan Hirschman. She retired in 2001.
